EC recommendation for Northern Kosovo

The Progress Report of the European Commission proposes that the Government of Kosovo should plan an all inclusive strategy for resolving the
problems in north and for establishing law and order.

Regarding this recommendation, the Deputy Prime Minister, Hajredin Kuci, says that they have made additional talks with the European Commission for clarifying this matter.

Kuci says that the European Commission has asked nothing new about the situation in Northern Kosovo, but they have simply asked for more commitment, which is part of the government’s plan.

Kuci noted that the Government of Kosovo has distributed several donations for that part of the country, in order to connect the Serbian citizens with the positive interests of Kosovo, with the institutions and to see the concrete support that is being given by the Kosovo government.

Kuci says that due to some criminals who exploit the citizens of that area in the name of patriotism, the situation in north has impeded the government from building road infrastructure, schools, economic aids and agricultural developments.

The northern situation is a challenge that requires commitment and coordination with EULEX and KFOR, but Kuci adds that most important is to trust the actions undertaken by the local and international institutions.
