The European Commission has followed and keeps following the
developments in Albania regarding the rule of law, especially the
debates and developments regarding the mandate of the Prosecutor
General.

“We pay a special attention to the rule of law, and we have followed very closely the developments about the Prosecutor General mandate. The General Prosecution is an independent institution and as such plays an essential role in addressing the challenges of the rule of law. As you know, this area is very important for the countries under integration and one of the areas that we follow very closely”, declared the European Commission Spokesperson, Peter Stano.

After the appointment of the Prosecutor General by President Bujar Nishani, the European Commission expects that the voting procedures in Parliament will be held in full accordance with the Constitution.

“We followed closely the President’s decision for appointing the new Prosecutor General and we are waiting to see the following Parliamentary procedures for the appointment of the General Prosecutor that should be held in full accordance with the Constitution”, declared the European Commission official.

The President chose Adriatic Alla as the new Prosecutor General, a decree that will be voted in Parliament. The opposition and the majority hold different positions on the replacement of the current Prosecutor General, Ina Rama.
