Dewi van de Weerd, Ambassador of the Dutch Kingdom, whose country holds
the presidency of the EU, was invited in a hearing session between the
Commissions of Foreign Policy and EU Integration.

The Ambassador said that 2016 is an important year for Albania, and it had a good start with the qualification of Albania for the European Championship in France. She said that the three priorities of their presidency are a stronger EU, more innovation, stronger ties with the citizen and more transparency.

The session was held behind closed doors, but Top Channel asked the Ambassador about the current efforts of Albania for the justice reform.

TCH: How do you see the efforts of Albania with the justice reform so far?

Ambassador Van de Weerd: I think that all parties have shown involvement and that they are keen to make this reform. I hope the process will continue and they will keep working for the realization of the reform.

TCH: One of the propositions in the draft planned by the justice reform experts is related to what is known as vetting, scanning all judges and Prosecutors. How important is this element in a time when you have personally expressed critical tones for the justice corruption?

Ambassador Van de Weerd: What is needed, is a credible justice system in Albania. Vetting is one of the propositions for the implementation of the reform.

TCH: Do you see this as very important?

Ambasadorja van de Weerd: Yes.

The ambassador says that the jusice reform is a main priority, but it should be realized for the Albanians who want a clean justice system. The failure of this reform is translated as further suffering for the people.
