There have remained only a few months from the end of the year, and the
Durres Municipal Council finally approved the draft-budget for 2011,
with a total of 2 billion ALL.

During this three hour long meeting, the councilors voted the budget unanimously after taking in consideration the propositions of the right centered councilors who own the majority of the council.

The debates focused especially on the failure of the tourist season, the public and social services and taxes. The budget of the second largest city in Albania was being withheld since February 2011, when it was presented to the former council.

The Municipal administration and right centered councilors debated even regarding the reasons that brought the revenues of this municipality to fall with almost 50%, compared to one year ago. The vice Mayor, Ardian Cela listed among them the blocking of the Council of the Territory Regulation by the right centered members, which has cost to the budget a total of 400 million ALL. Another decrease there was in the number of small businesses and the unpaid property tax by most of Durres citizens. For this year, the Municipality of this city had planned 1 billion ALL of public investments and services, but their realization is almost impossible for this year, which ends after 90 days, while the revenues have fulfilled only 55% of what had been predicted for these 8 months.
