Dritero Agolli, Albanian famous writer, passed away at 85

One of Albania’s greatest writers, Dritero Agolli, has passed away this Friday at 85.

Agolli was born in Menkulas, Devoll. He attended the Gjirokastra high-school, known for its important tradition.

He finished his university studies in Saint Petersburg, Russia. After working as a journalist for “Zeri i Popullit”, he led the League of Writers and Albanian Artists for several years.

Agolli is famous for several poems, novels, short stories, movies scripts that have given him several awards.

Agolli entered in the 1960’s as a man who had seen himself as a farmer, a shepherd, a villager, a student, a highlander and a city dweller, and became one of the best protagonists of Albanian literature. His works have been translated in several languages.
