The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, said that the meeting of
their Parliamentary Group was very productive regarding the current
situation.
“We expressed earlier that the DP and I want to continue the next negotiations openly to the public, so that there is no politicization in this phase of the process, in order to show which party is doing something that serves the Albanians and not political parties”, Basha informed.
He said that the opposition is unanimous in favor of the constitutional draft based on the “hybrid proposition”, and is now ready to discuss the two remaining issues. “We are open for negotiations, strongly based on the principles of the EU, USA and the Venice Commission. We are ready to offer and accept solutions within this framework. I am not pessimistic that we can find a solution, because Albanians deserve a consensual solution for the justice reform”.
When asked about critics about damaging the relations of the DP with the international partners, even calling the DP anti-western, Basha said:
“You have distorted information. DP is concerned about the misuse made to this reform. I am trying to respect the moratorium in these important hours. I invite the majority for reflection. The DP is coherent and unanimous”, he said.
However, the US Ambassador said he is disappointed by the incoherent position of the opposition. “We are coherent. We have accepted their proposition yesterday and we are expecting the agreement to go towards approval, not disapproval. The DP is a party founded on Euro-Atlantic values and we support them. We will give Albanians a good news after these negotiations”, Basha said.
