DP: SP blocking the process, must change position

The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, held a long speech at the
Albanian Parliament, on the first round of the presidential election.
There were two stances in this speech: the first is that the Socialist
and Democratic party cannot continue the negotiations for finding a
consensual presidential name, and the second is the possibility to agree
about the amends at the Central Election Commission, asked by the
Socialist Party.

In an interview for Sokol Balla, the Democratic Parliamentary Group leader, Astrit Patozi, commented the developments in the Parliament floor. Patozi declared that the majority has always been open and committed for the three points (the electoral reform, the parliamentary reform and immunity), that were presented by the Socialists, but the Parliament meeting was for electing the president.

“We have given our positive signals for the three points, but we were gathered here today for electing the Presidential election. What remains to be seen is the stance of the other party. I underline, not only due to the Political Council that was gathered today, but I believe that the opposition will redimension its stance for the president and the country”, Patozi declared.

As regards Berisha’s refusal to meet Rama, Patozi declared that this meeting would not be successful. According to him, the problem lies at the opposition and its leader, if they have the determination to enter a decent process for electing the President and for starting the other reforms that the country needs.

As regards Zaganjori’s candidacy, proposed by the majority, Patozi declared that the majority had conceded a lot with this proposition, by offering someone outside the political world, with the trust that he would receive the confirmation and seriousness of the opposition.

Patozi added that the Democratic Party and the Majority wills tand to Zaganjori’s candidacy and he accused the Socialist Party that they presented no reason why they were refusing this candidacy.

As for the three points of the Socialists, Patozi declared that this is an artificial unification.

“Let’s elect the president first and then discuss the other points”, declared the Democratic Parliamentary Group leader, by adding that the SP aims to block the process.

DP and the SMI came with a common name for the president, removing the voices that there was a conflict between the two government allies.

“The coalition has never lost SMI or Meta. SMI has not always been on the same line with the Democratic Party, and this is not the first time. I think that this serves to a better political movement”, Patozi declared.

Oketa: President to derive from politics

The initiator of the New Democratic Spirit, Gazmend Oketa, declared that the president should be elected with more than 84 votes.

“We don’t have an official candidate for the new president. We must focus on the process for choosing the candidate”, Oketa declared in a live interview with Top Channel’s Top Story.

According to Oketa, the political class made step back, because they were unable to bring a name from politics, since the President must be someone who knows the political area very well.
