Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Democratic Party rejected the propositions of the Socialist party
for the Constitutional amends and warned that they would be also refused
at the Commission of Laws.
The report presented by the DP mediator, Paulina Hoti, says that the SP propositions endanger the constitutional order in the country.
The Democrats think that the amends proposed by the opposition damage the Democratic Procedures in Parliament and offer institutional blockage. The report also says that these propositions will damage opposition’s role.
The Socialist MP and mediator, Pandeli Majko, defended the opposition propositions. Accoridng to him, these propositions guarantee the biggest independence of the justice system.
One of the main points proposed by the Socialists for changing the Constitution is that of electing the Chairmen and members of the Constitutional Court. The opposition proposed that the current law should be changed and the members of these courts should be elected with qualified majority.
SP demanded the review of their requests before reviewing the immunity lifting. It remains to be seen if there will be an agreement after the rejection that the Democrats made to the Socialist propositions.
