The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, is attending the European
Popular Parties congres in Malta, where he held a speech in a plenary
session.
According to the DP press office, the opposition leader has met with leaders of European right-wing parties, to him he has presented their concerns about fair elections in Albania, free from the influence of crime, drugs and dirty money.
This was the topic of the discussion with the EPP President, Joseph Daul, and General Secretary Antonio Lopez Isturiz.
In his meeting with the Austrian Foreign Minister, Sebastian Kurz, Lulzim Basha underlined the importance of free elections for the European future of Albania. Basha said that this battle for European values will continue until victory.
Basha met with the European Commissioner for Security, Dimitri Avramopulos, with whom he shared the deep concern for organized crime, drugs and other traffics. Basha presented him the plan of the Democratic Party to lead a fight without compromise, in order to subdue crime and traffics. For this he received full and institutional support from the Security Commissioner.
The DP press office said that in a meeting with Pier-Ferdinando Cazini, the Chairman of the Italian Senate, Basha was guaranteed to have support on their fair-vote cause. Basha argued that the only solution is the creation of a technical government that cuts ties with crime and implements the decriminalization process. Cazini has valued the proposition of the Albanian opposition as righteous.
The DP announcement says that their leaders expressed their concerns to the Greek opposition leader, Kirjakos Micotaqis; Italian Senator Mario Mauro; chairman of the Forza Italia group at the Italian Senate, Paolo Romani; and all of them supported the Albanian opposition efforts for a free vote.
In his meeting with the President of the European Council, Pedro Agramunt, Basha underlined that Albania should not be left on the hands of organized crime and drug cartels who have grabbed the power through government connections, who plan to keep power by eliminating free vote.
Basha also met with the Croatian Prime Minister, Andre Plenkovic; the winner of Bulgarian elecitons, Borisov; Doris Pack; Sybrand Bauma; the Chairman of the Foreign Commission at the European Parliament, David McAllister; the leaders of right-wing parties in Sweden and Slovenia; the Agriculture Minister of Germany, Christian Schmidt.
The opposition leader will participate today at the EPP summit, the highest forum of the European right wing parties.
