“The propositions of the European Commission in the progress report are
based in merits, and it is not a gift”, declared Majlinda Bregu,
Minister of Integration, during a hearing session at the Parliamentary
Commission for the European Integration.
Bregu declared that the political consensus is necessary for the EU Council of Ministers to approve the proposition for Albania’s candidate status. The consensus is needed for the reforms in the Supreme Court, the Public Administration and the Parliamentary Reform, all within November.
“If the remaining obligations will not be voted by November 20th, the Council will not approve the status. Why should the elections be a condition for starting the negotiations? No matter who the winner is on the elections of 2013, there is no need to mix the roles”, Bregu declared.
She said that the two-year long delay in the integration processes is related with the opposition’s stance. According to them, the massive defamation of Albania after the elections of 2009 created irreparable damages for the country.
Gramoz Ruci, member of this Commission, opposed Minister Bregu saying that she cannot speak in front of the sovereign Parliament with the language of a party commissar.
“Albania’s image was damaged by corruption, the criminality, the murdered MPs, the murdered heads of communes, murdered protesters, murdered judges and murdered chiefs of police. I’m sorry that you have a concept that see the opposition as numbers”, Ruci declared.
