DP accuses government for removing land for physical compensation

The Democratic Party referred to a recent government decision to show
that this majority not only has no intention to compensate former land
owners, but they will use the country’s assets for their clients.

This declaration was referring to a decision that removes 18.000 hectares of agricultural land from the physical compensation fund for former owners, and passes it to the Ministry of Agriculture, to use them according to the law and for leasing the agricultural land according to the law for concessions.

“With this decision, the government zeroes the fund of agricultural land that was planned to be returned to former owners through a physical compensation. With this act, Rama showed his huge lie against former owners in the elections. He is damaging the legal security principle, since there already are applications for physical compensation from this fund”, declared the Democratic Party Parliament Member, Jorida Tabaku.

According to the Democratic Party, this anti-constitutional decision falls against the obligations left by the Strasbourg Court, which has asked the Albanian authorities to start exploiting the physical compensation reforms. Tabaku says that the application in this scheme – which is being rejected by the government through this decision – should have started this year. But not only this is not taking place, but this decision, according to the Democratic Party, will damage the state’s budget.

“Zeroing this fund, by removing it from the former owners and passing it to the clients of Rama, will undo the credibility of the government. This will be undone not only for this part of our people, but also for the European Court of Human Rights. This illegal and anti-constitutional decision of Edi Rama, which damages the former owners, will have a direct impact in reviewing hundreds of requests that have been suspended by the Strasbourg Court, by making our financial burden for our State Budget even heavier”, Tabaku declared.

Qeveria: We will make lands productive

The Minister of Agriculture answered to the Democratic Party Parliament Member, Jorida Tabaku, regarding the 18 hectares of land that have been administered by the Minister of Agriculture.

Through this declaration, the Minister of Agriculture explains that the Democratic Party has not read its explanation regarding this issue on the day when this government decision was approved.

The declaration underlines that the passage under their administration of 18.076 hectares of agricultural land not only doesn’t damage the former owners, but it is on their own interest. This agricultural land has lost value through the years and is degrading by the lack of investments. Not a single square meter has returned to the owners during these years, and this land keeps being victim of illegal abuses and interventions.
