Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Tirana University Senate asked the government leader, Sali Berisha,
to intervene for implementing the law of High Education and pass the
High School dormitory to the Tiarna University.
The Senate said that the dormitory of the high school has been requested even earlier by the university, due their urgent needs for spaces.
By the beginning of 2012, according to the Tirana University, they have been told that the building cannot be leased, because it must serve a dormitory for the High School children. The Municipal Council has also approved the fund for its reconstruction.
The University Senate has officially asked the Prime Minister to pass the dormitory to the State Universities, since the first priority in such cases goes to the public education, according to the law. While the State University building has been rejected, the Municipality has started hidden negotiations with a private university for its leasing.
The accelerated tender was held secretly for favoring the only subject that was part of it, University Luarasi.
MP Ledi Shmaku says that this subject can privatize the building if they will invest more than 100 million ALL, and the renting price of 300 ALL per square meter is ridiculous. What about the orphans that live there? “Rather than having it rented to the public institutions, it has been rented to a private one, donated for electoral and media purposes”, Shmaku declared.
While the procedures are undergoing, the Tirana Municipality and the Directory of Dormitories have not specified where the students of the High School will be sheltered in the next year, together with the orphans.
