Police: No Prosecutors in Lazarat. “Serious Crimes” react

The General Chief of Police asked the Prosecution General and that of the Serious Crimes to be present in the operation that started last Monday in Lazarat.

The Chief of Police, Artan Didi, declared that it is impossible to cover all procedural operations with one single Prosecution from the Court, and one from the Court of Serious Crimes.

“We are in a critical situation and we need support from the other institutions. We had a Prosecutor two days ago and we don’t know where he is now. This area is full of criminal activity and evidence, ammunition, narcotics and plants. Police has remained alone. We appeal the justice institutions to be here and verify what happened in Lazarat, to verify the amount of money that has been produced here and where have they gone. Some cases have started months ago for Lazarat, but we haven’t had cooperation with the cases in question. We cannot do anything with one Prosecutor, when we have 35 investigation teams on terrain”, Didi declared.

The Chief of Polcie said that they need the involvement of all other justice institutions so that the operation can be considered successful. He denied the accusations for robbing from the police, and appealed the Lazarat residents to stay home while they are being searched by the police.

The Vice Chief of Police, Altin Qato, declared for Top Channel that many experts are engaged in this operation, but they need even more for the operation to go faster.

“The residents welcome the presence of the police, but we need the presence of the Prosecution too”, Qato declared.

“We are searching the premises, since we suspect that the evidence is related to criminal activities. We will continue until the entire area is cleaned. We have inspected 150 houses, and the operation is still undergoing. We are searching for 30 people, but this number might increase in the next hours”, declared the vice Chief of Police.

The Prosecutor of Serious Crimes, Eugen Beci, declared for Top Channel that he has finalized all procedures asked by the police.

According to Beci, two Prosecutors from the Serious Crimes have been present each day at the Gjirokaster Police. He said that he has contacted with Didi several times during the operation.

Beci says that the Prosecution of Serious Crimes has done everything according to the law. This Prosecution has engaged 150 people during this oepration to help the State Police in Lazarat.
