Doctors: You can prevent cancer

On the international day against Cancer, the Health Minister, Vangjel
Tavo, appealed citizens to make tests in order to prevent fatal
diseases. Albania has 6000 new cases of cancer each year.
“Each year we have 6000 new cases of cancer, which affect mostly breasts in women and lungs in men. It’s also true that cancer is not fatal, when we have 30% of the cases that can be prevented, by changing factors such as smoking, overweight, unhealthy diets, low consumption of fruits and vegetables, lack of physical activity, abusive usage of alcohol, dangerous sexual behaviours, urban pollution, etc”, Tavo declared.
The Chief of the Oncology Service, Agim Sallaku, declared that more awareness campaigns should be undertaken, in order to prevent cancer diseases. If these diseases are caught on time, deaths could be prevented.
“It is important to diagnose and prevent cancer, since 13rd of the cases can be preventable. If we make the population aware, we can make it”, Sallaku declared.
The Health Minister, Vangjel Tavo, declared that they are trying to offer pain relief treatments for all cancer patients.
