More than 100 tons of dangerous chemicals, held near Qafe-Molle
residential areas, were repacked by Albanian soldiers and are now
waiting for a 250.000 EUR fund that the OSCE is searching for their
transportation outside Albania.
The OSCE leader in Albania, Florian Rouning, after inspecting the Qafe Molla base with the Minister of Defense, Mimi Kodheli, declared that Albania has still a lot to do for cleaning all of its hot spots.
“With the financial support of the Czech Republic and Turkey, this huge quantity of chemicals will be preserved in safety. However, this is just the first step. We need to find a solution for destroying them. The OSCE is looking for a 250.000 EUR fund to transport the chemicals”, Rouning declared.
The Minister of Defense, Kodheli, praised the Albanian military officers involved in this job and expressed the government’s dedication to clean the hot spots.
“The elimination of excessive ammunition, the disposing of considerable chemical substances and hundreds of tons of unnecessary logistic materials of the Armed Forces, is still a priority of the Ministry of Defense, which will identify all quantities and locations of dangerous chemicals that are owned by the Armed Forces, and we will prepare them for possible future projects”, Kodheli declared.
Sweden might be the country that will destroy these chemicals, which are spread throughout the country. Mainly cyanide used by the Kinostudio and Dajti Enterprise. The OSCE presence in Albania has helped with the destruction of 60 tons of toxic rocket elements.
