Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The biggest political parties in Albania have hesitated to vote the Cham
draft-resolution submitted by the Party for Justice, Integration and
Unity at the Parliamentary Foreign Commission.
The Democrats asked for more time to verify the international and Greek legal references on which the draft-resolution is planned, while the Socialists asked to review the content of the PJIU proposition.
“These difficulties made us not be ready to have a relation for the Commission. I’m not talking about the content, but the legal references on which the request is based, with the goal to restore some basic rights”, declared the Democratic Party MP, Fatbardh Kadilli.
“This content is unacceptable, that’s why we need to review it and make a deeper restructuring, adn then we are ready to contribute. We must preserve the national interest balances and the good relations with Greece”, declared the Socialist MP, Qemal Minxhozi.
“If you give us your support, the rest is easy. Make two articles, no longer than that, and let’s focus on these points: 1. Reactivation of the Friendship Treaty. 2. Bringing relations where they should be. 3. Returning the rights of the Cham Albanians. 4. Remove the War Law”, declared the PJIU leader, Shpetim Idrizi.
Vangjel Dule, leader of the United for Human Rights Party, which represents the Greek minority in Albania, opposed the resolution saying that it is not based on the Parliament’s Regulation or the Constitution. These declarations created some debates with the PJIU MPs.
“We want nothing more than what the our fathers left to us, and this is based on the Universal Card of Human Rights, although this clown in front of me (referring to Dule) represents that party”, declared Dashamir Tahiri, MP of the PJIU.
“I cannot be part of this meeting that is turning into a street level debate”, Dule declared, leaving the room.
Tension dominated even in the meeting of the Parliamentary Foreign Commission between Idrizi and representatives from the DP and SP, saying that the PJIU is making this initiative in this moment for electoral purposes.
Idrizi declared that the Cham case should not be delayed, and this request was supported by the MP of the New Democratic Spirit, Gazmend Oketa. The resolution will continue by reviewing the Foreign Commission this Tuesday. PJIU has given the Cham resolution as a condition for choosing the next electoral coalition.
