Disabled people unpaid for three months

On the international day of Disabled People, the persons of this
category protest that they have not been paid for the last three months
by the government.

“There’s nothing harder for a parent than having a child demanding to eat and you have nothing to give him; when the child demands a new cloth or toy, and you cannot buy it. We haven’t been paid in the last two months. The justification is the lack of funds. It’s very difficult to live without money, by taking food on the tab from local stores”, declared Agron Hatia.

Te Chairman of the National Council of Disabled People, Sinan Tafaj, appealed the government to take the necessary measures and secure the payments for disabled people. He also asked the inclusion of non-contribution pension in the scheme.

“The delay of our payments is a problem that has been like this for many years, especially during December. The budget has not been distributed regularly, but only to a certain degree, in only some municipalities and communes. Many of our people have not been paid. This is the time for the Albanian state to start a new social scheme, such as the non-contribution pension for the people who cannot work”, Tafaj declared.

Present in that meeting was the Minister of Labour and Equal Rights, Spiro Ksera, who spoke about the achievements but did not admit the delayed payments. Ksera preferred to use irony in his declarations against the Ombudsman, the institution that has criticized him several times.

“I neglected the Ombudsman in my speech, but I appeal him to join the policies of the Ministry of Labour, which covers the problems of the Disabled People associations, so that we all can achieve their social integration”, Ksera declared.

“The only objective of the Ombudsman is to defend the citizens’ rights. In these conditions we are criticized at times, and praised in other times. We’re all on the same boat and our goal is to defend our rights, to improve the living standard of disabled people and all Albanian citizens”, the Ombudsman declared.

Districts like Berat, Shkoder, Elbasan, Pogradec, Peqin and other communes have not paid their disabled people for the last three months.
