Disabled people to address Constitutional Court

After the President decreed the amends of the law for the Status of
Blind and Paraplegic People, this category was very disappointed and
says that their rights have been violated.

The president of the Blind People Association, Sinan Tafaj, declared that they will ask the Constitutional Court to repeal the law.

“The Council of Ministers amended a law for the economic assistance of disabled people, who will not receive it anymore. This is against law 9355, article 4.13, which states that the payment for disabled people is not considered as family income, which automatically removes the assistance”, Tafaj declared.

Tafaj argues that the payment given to disabled people should not be considered as an income, since they are compensated by the disability.

“This is only the beginning of the changes that this law will bring, which aim to calculate the disability payment as an economic payment, and that is conditioned by new incomes. In these conditions, the life of these people is becoming even more difficult”, Tafaj declared.

Blind and paraplegic people will ask the Minister of Labor, Spiro Ksera, to repeal the law that has cut them the economic assistance, otherwise they warn massive protests. Tafaj declared that the information for the violation of the rights of disabled people has been transmitted to the EU.
