Disabled people protest against government

Blind, paraplegic and other disabled people warned a protest in front of
the Parliament this Thursday, on March 8th, in which they will
peacefully ask the MPs to not vote the amends for the law for blind and
paraplegic people, which affects their electricity, phone and public
transportation compensations.

“With this protest we appeal the majority and opposition MPs to not vote the law; to try and think if they had in their families someone that was disabled, so that they can understand this category”, declared Mybere Prizreni, President of the Paraplegic Association.

“It should not be left on the government’s hand. The Parliament should not delegate its competences to the government, because, given their current situation, they will reduce our support and compensations. We ask them to not pass this law. If they will pass it, I want to make it clear that this is only the beginning of our confrontation with the public institutions”, declared Sinan Tafaj, President of the Blind People Association.

The leaders of both associations appealed the police to not use violence against these people that protest for their lives, as it happened on 21 May 2009, when two blind women were physically attacked in front of the Prime Ministry.
