Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future A group of National Council of Disabled People representatives met the
Albanian President, Bamir Topi, to whom they asked not to decree and to
return to Parliament the law that changes the compensation conditions
for the Paraplegic and Blind people.
“We presented all our concerns to the President and asked him to return the law in Parliament”, declared Sinan Tafaj, President of the National Council of Disabled People.
Tafaj declared that the state institutions must plan a strategy that avoids discrimination and insecurity for disabled people, such as reducing compensation payments for electricity, phone and transportation.
After hearing the concerns of the disabled people, President Topi declared that he will follow the situation closely, together with their requests for feeling equal among others.
The Head of the Albanian State underlined that only the legal ways are democratic for finding the necessary constitutional solutions, emphasizing the need and significance for raising the social awareness even more, especially of the institutions that have the duty to guarantee the rights of this category, according to the standards of a democratic state.
