Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future High rank embassy representatives, the Ombudsman, members of human
rights organizations and LGTB organizers have opened today the Diversity
Festival.
May 17th is the international day against homophobia and transphobia. The ambassador of Netherlands, Van Den Dool, and the US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, have greeted this activity by asking the human rights to be respected.
The activity was also greeted by the Ombudsman, the Deputy Minister of Labor and other EU representatives. Earlier, in a press conference, Altin Hazizaj declared that the Albanians are still homophobic.
A few minutes after the LGTB activity started, the Albanian Islamic Forum held a meeting against homosexuality, not far from the LGTB manifestation and under the eye of the police.
Although in bad weather conditions, dozens of young people, women and children chanted in protection of the family and against the social diversity as a value.
The leader of the Islamic Forum declared that Albania’s EU integration must not come by allowing anti-values, as he called the homosexuality and their slogans for diversity.
The manifestation was calm and without incidents.
