Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The US Ambassador to Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, and the Albanian Minister
of Justice, Eduard Halimi, inaugurated this Friday at the Lezhe Court
the installation of the first digital audio registration system for the
courts.
With funding from USAID and in close partnership with the Albanian government and the judiciary, this marks the beginning of the implementation of an important initiative: the installation of a new advanced technology in courts, which helps them becoming more effective and transparent.
Ambassador Arvizu declared that besides the human performance of the justice people, the registration process is also very important, since it serves to transparency.
“Experts made it clear that one of the challenges of the Albanian justice is the overloaded system at courts. This situation contributes in finding shorter ways, causing carelessness and obstructing justice. As regards the Prosecution, we are proud for the cooperation for the Millennium Challenge Program, with the establishment of a team that is focused in economic crime investigations that are related with corruption. There are seven similar units in the country. This is another institutional cooperation example that is related with the improvement of the justice system”, Arvizu declared.
This technology guarantees accurate records during the court sessions and ends possible conflicts about what has been said in a specific session.
The audio registration system will be expanded in every court session in the country by December 2013, including the courts of Appeal, the Court of First Degree and the Serious Crimes.
The Minister of Justice spoke about the significance of this project and this big step that focuses more on transparency.
