Albania’s agreement to take 20 Eritrean refugees from Italy has caused debates in our neighbouring country and in the EU as well.

The Deputy Interior Minister, Rovena Voda, said in an interview for Top Channel that Albania is ready to welcome Eritrean refugees at any time, although there is no date yet.

“This depends mostly on the procedures of Italy and on the Human Rights Convention. Of course, the refugees must decide that they are willing to be sheltered in Albania. This has caused debates in the EU as well, but that is their problem”, Voda said.

According to the Deputy Minister, Albania has limited capacities to welcome other refugees in the future, but the recent wave has not left our country indifferent.

“From January to June, 4000 immigrants have entered Albania. 500 of them have chosen to stay in our country”, Voda said.
