Demographic changes in Albania

The Albanian population has had a special transition.

Until 20 years ago, we were among the countries with the highest birth expectancy, while today we’re ranked among the last countries of Europe.

Demographic expert, Arjan Gjoncaj, confirmed that the demographic changes and the bad managing of this problematic might bring economic and social crises, if the necessary measures will not taken on time.

“The life expectancy in Albania has had a gradual increase, since 1950 and up to now. The transition period did not change this trend. Albanian men expect to live until 74, while women 79. The population aging will reach our country after 20 or 30 years”, Gjoncaj declared.

The Albanians live longer and this is a fact supported by accurate statistics.

¼ of the population has emigrated before the 90s. This phenomenon has affected the population aging and for reducing the ability to afford the pension scheme.
