The Parliament passed the 10-year moratorium for stopping the
exploitation of lumber and of its sub-products. This law will enter in
effect immediately after it is published on the government’s official
bulletin, but the question now is how with the population get lumber
supply.
Experts say that the municipalities and communes will have a direct responsibility to manage forests and to supply lumber, with a special price for the wood.
There are 200.000 families that consume lumber. The Minister said that there are 10 contracts with private subjects that will be interrupted. An audit company will be chosen to verify if the Ministry needs to compensate the contracts or not. There are many companies that use lumber as their raw material, that’s why the Ministry has proposed a draft-law for managing the forests, and is discussing removing VAT.
The Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Finances and the Ministry of Interior will be the ones monitoring the implementation of the moratorium.
