Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The law for the weapons keeps spurring debates at the Commission of
Security. The Socialists declared reserves for the article that
classifies arms in Albania. They demand that every weapon that enters
Albania should undergo the Parliament’s procedures, not only the
government’s.
With the current law, the government can buy high-end weapons without the Parliament’s approval.
“Other weapons decided by the Council of Ministers. I fear you will classify as such the gun-umbrellas and poisoned knives that appeared to the Prime Minister on January 21st”, declared MP Pirro Lutaj.
The article for arming politicians keeps being the obstacle.
“Politicians and their drivers don’t have to be armed. The Albanian legislation creates uncertainties for the persons that in serious danger, and this can be proven easily. In cases like that, the Prosecution is the institution that takes measures. It is absurd to imagine a Constitutional Court judge armed with a handgun”, declared the Socialist MP, Arben Isaraj.
The MPs of the majority did not engage in this debate at the Security Commission. The law for weapons should have been discussed at the Integration Commission, but the Interior Ministry did not introduce it.
The Chairman of this Commission, Ditmir Bushati, wrote to the Interior Ministry showing his concern about the lack of appreciation for this Commission.
“I wouldn’t want to continue with a political discussion about this issue. But the respect of the Parliament and the European Integration Commission is clear evidence about the government’s lack of seriousness in the EU integration process, for which they promise only words”, Bushati declared.
