Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Ardian Visha, the Socialist candidate for the High Council of Justice
was valued as very professional even by the majority MPs, during the
hearing session at the Commission of Laws.
But the question that received the attention of everyone was about his connection with Fatmir Mediu, as his lawyer at Gerdeci’s case. Mr. Visha explained how he built the relation with his clients before the defensive process in trial.
“When I accept a case, the client confesses and based on that I built the defensive strategy. When I am convinced for the innocence, I defend it strongly and I have never hesitated to make it public in specific cases’, Visha declared.
The Democratic MP, Edi Paloka: You were Mr. Fatmir Mediu’s lawyer in the Gerdeci case, when he was Minister of Defense. You did your job with him or you were convinced about his innocence?
Visha: I did both of them. I did my job as a lawyer, for defending my client who trusted me, and I have always believed in his innocence.
But this declaration of the Socialist candidate for the High Council of Justice has not changed the opposition’s stance for Gerdeci as a state crime, and neither for their member at the High Council of Justice, which was confirmed by the Socialist MP, Saimir Tahiri, who also signed for Visha’s candidacy.
However, Visha’s statement in which he said that he trusted that Minister Mediu was innocent was commented by the democrats as a lack of political moral by the opposition. The opposition insisted that Visha should be judged for the professional integrity and not his personal opinion about special clients such as Mr. Mediu.
“Our stance for the Gerdeci case is unchanged. You cannot escape your political responsibility”, declared the Socialist MP, Fatmir Xhafaj.
“We must tell the real truth to the Albanians. It’s either the truth of Edi Rama, or this of Mr. Visha. If you bring him for defending the justice concept, you should apologize to Sali Berisha, to all Albanians and everyone that you have unjustly accused for what you call a state crime”, declared MP Strazimiri.
Beyond these stances, the Socialist candidate for the HCJ did not hesitate to ask all MPs to vote for him.
“Every single vote would be very valuable. I would rather lose with the votes of both of you, than winning with the votes of only one side”, Visha declared.
Visha received only the opposition’s vote, considering that the Socialist candidate did not fulfill the merit criterion.
However, it is expected that not all Democratic MPs will vote the candidate of the majority for this post. For this we will have to wait for the plenary session of this Thursday, which will be held with hidden voting.
