Debates for the Cham resolution

The review of the Cham Resolution at the Foreign Parliamentary
Commission has taken a sudden change. While the parties were discussing a
draft brought by the PJIU, and another by the SP, the Chairman of the
Commission, Socialist MP Fatos Beja, has surprised everyone by saying
that the draft-resolution has been approved since 2004.

“We cannot vote it once again. The procedures are problematic. We can correct the procedures and arrive at the Constitution, but we cannot violate something that has been already voted. I am aware that there is a problem for you as initiators. I understand that it is difficult for you, because, unfortunately, it has not circulated as it should. I wanted to verify it when I was looking at my materials, and it was difficult for me to find it”, Beja declared.

“It’s not a matter of information. If the resolution was approved, it should have been at the official bulletin”, declared the Party for Justice, Integration and Unity, Shpetim Idrizi.

Regarding the document which shows that in 2004 the resolution had 53 votes in favour, 44 abstained and 4 against, makes it approved since it has the majority of votes.

But according to Beja, Servet Pellumbi, then Parliament Speaker, has rejected the declaration. This irritated the PJIU members at the Foreign Commission, saying that Pellumbi has falsified the people’s will and he should be brought to justice.

The fact that the resolution was not approved in 2004 can be proved by the news reports of that time. Strangely, the MPs did not react against the number of votes, but just clashed with the Police.

“We demand the reconfirmation of this decision in the official bulletin, so that it can turn into a guide for the entire Albanian government”, Idrizi declared.
