The former coach of Albania’s national football team, Gianni de Biasi,
was last night’s guest on Top Story, where he made a long confession
about his adventure as coach, a time that brought huge success to
Albania but also controversies.

The Italian coach said that he decided to leave the team after losing against a modest rival, such as Luxembourg.

“After that match I was thinking about leaving. That was a match that we should have won 4-0, not lose it 2-1. There was a massacre for the players. It’s not because of the match with Israel. I had already decided. There was nothing more for me to give to this team”, De Biasi said.

Now that De Biasi left, the Albanian Football Federation has the luxury to adopt the team to the new coach.

“I gave a chance to the federation to bring a new coach and have enough time to prepare for the next qualifications”, De Biasi said.

De Biasi talked about the only conflicting situation caused in five years and a half, the one with Taulant Xhaka.

“If someone sees the replacement as something personal, then it is his problem. He must understand the philosophy of a team. A team is united. If he wouldn’t make an apology to all players and all supporters, he wouldn’t be back”, De Biasi said.

The former coach of the national team also spoke about the punishment given to “Skenderbeu” for match fixing.

“As long as betting companies are legal and they become sponsors of various teams, I think there will always be a tendency; a very narrow line will be dividing them. Skenderbeu is a very serious team that has done important things recently, but they were found guilty for non-pleasant situations”, De Biasi said.
