The Supreme Court postponed once again the Prosecution’s recourse of a
decision given by the Appeal of Serious Crimes for defendant Dritan
Dajti.
The Court of Appeal decided on December 2014 to return the Dajti case to the Court of First Degree, by arguing the frequent procedural violations, from the absence of lawyers during the entire process.
Dajti’s process turned into a series of 278 sessions, but this created a precedent of postponing a trial by not having a lawyer available. Even judges were threatened, some taken under protection.
The 44-year-old was found guilty by the Court of First Degree for the murder of four police officers. With the justification that he had no economic means to pay a lawyer, the authorities offered one by the state, but no one accepted to defend him.
For this reason, the Prosecution addressed to the Supreme Court with a recourse, which has failed to start the first session.
Dritan Dajti was sentenced by the Court of First Degree for the murder of four police officers on August 7th 2009 in Durres.
