Thousands of war veterans protested today in Croatia against the sentence of 24 years in prison for General Ante Gotovina by The Hague Court.

Gotovina was convicted of war crimes against Serbian population in 1995, during a military campaign for regaining the territories of the Krajina region.

The protesters gathered at the central square of Zagreb, and also in other cities of the country, accusing the Croatian government of treason, because, according to them, is doing nothing to save Gotovina.

They declared that the general is not guilty for the operation code named “The Storm”, and that they value him as a hero of the Croatian people.

Gotovina was sentenced together with the other general, Mladen Markac, for murder, persecution and damage of private property.
