Croatia blocks Serbia’s EU accession

Croatia blocked the negotiation talks for Serbia, using their veto power
on chapters 23 and 24. The Council of Europe joint group postponed the
discussion over two chapters related to the rule of law, the justice
system and human rights.

The agenda was not voted only from the Croatian side, while the rule is that there is needed an unanimous vote.

Zagreb has not explained with details the reasons for blocking the accession talks for Serbia, but Croatian officials have declared recently several times that they will block the accession process if Belgrade will not implement some conditions.

The concerns of the Croats are related to the full respecting of minority rights, full cooperation with the Court of Hague and canceling a Serbian law that excludes this country from international jurisdiction for crime wars.

But Belgrade is convinced that the Croatian blockage is only based on their daily motives. Serbian analysts say that this is the only way to explain this blockage, since all other EU countries have given green light.
