Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The number of emigrants who are returning in Albania has doubled this year, compared to the same period of one year ago.
According to the Minister of Labor, Social Matters and Equal Opportunities, Spiro Ksera, most of them are looking for a job after returning to Albania, and that would negatively affect the job market.
“A big number of people who have returned from emigration is negatively affecting the job market. Most of the returnees want to find a job, but a large part of them, 22%, are integrated in the professional reformation projects. 5% are looking for economic aid and the rest has addressed to the agricultural projects and have demanded information for the education of their children.
The Albanian government gives 8000 ALL monthly to the returned families of emigrants. Most of them come from Greece, due to the debt and political crisis in the area. But there are also Albanians who have lived in Italy for a long time and who are returning.
“Comparing to the same period of one year ago, we have the double of returned emigrants. 30.000 people have returned last year during the entire year, and we hope that this number will not go 60.000 people this year”, Ksera declared.
The Minister says that most of the emigrants that have returned are construction workers. Those who work in the service sector have fewer problems.
