Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Chairwoman of the Competition Commission, Lindita Lati, declared
that the courts are hampering war against domestic monopolies.
“The main concern of the Competition Commission is absorbing the competition philosophy from the judiciary, since it is very important to have a reasoning based on the public’s interest”, Lati declared.
While presenting the annual report, the Economy Commission Chairwoman said that the judicial decisions are not on the citizens’ interest. The Competition Authority doesn’t protect anybody’s interests. The competition authority implements a specific law and introduces the arguments”, Lati declared.
The opposition raised another concern that is related with the government’s and administration’s decisions to limit competition and favour monopolies. Some of them are related with the concessionary agreements that transfer the monopolies to private sectors, such as the excise stamps or the attempt to monopolize the fuel control service.
“The concessionary rights cannot be affected by the Competition Authority, because these are contractual obligations. But the Competition Authority insists that the other institutions should implement the concessionary agreements and the respective assessments, in order to approach to the economic realities. This is a compulsory obligation that all institutions should realize”, Lati declared.
Last year, the authority closed the investigations on a series of important markets, such as energy and insurances.
