Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Court of Appeal rejected the sentence of the First Degree Court of
Serious Crimes against Alfred Shkurt, known as Aldo Bare, arguing that
there are procedural infringements.
This means that Aldo Bare’s trial will start from the beginning, reinvestigating the 12 accusations, five of which are for murder. Aldo Bare’s lawyer, Vladimir Meci, ranked some of these violations and for the first time requested Aldo Bare’s innocence.
“There’s no surprise for us to request Aldo Bare’s innocence. The issue of procedural deadlines is very important”, declared the defendant lawyer, Meci.
Being trialed separately from the other defendants, known as members of the Lushnja Gang, Bare’s file will return to another judge panel. What we know is that the Court of Serious Crimes must overcome one stalemate; that of the absence of the judges that were consumed in the processes against the two Banda e Lushnjes groups.
Even for Bare’s trial, the Court of Serious Crimes asked the help of the High Council of Justice, which lent five judges from the Tirana Penal Chamber, led by Fatmira Hajdari, by giving them the temporary competences of the Judge of Serious Crimes.
The President of the Court of Serious Crimes, Etleva Deda, had a phone conversation with Top Channel after this decision, and was asked about the procedures that will be followed for creating Bare’s judge panel. The President declared that it is true that there is no Judge Panel for Bare at the Court of Serious Crimes, and for this reason they will address a letter to the High Council of Justice. But this would be made one month after this decision, because that is the procedural deadline for recourse at the Supreme Court.
The Court of Serious Crimes declared that there is a lack of judges even for the defendant Alfred Beqiri, trialed many times for international drug traffic, the most important of which was the blocking of 500 kg marijuana in Karaburun.
