Court orders strike’s dispersal

The Tirana Police filed a suit against the hunger strike of the
political prisoners, with the argument that three of them attempted self
immolation.

Basing their lawsuit on the law for manifestations, the police asked the court to disperse the strike with the argument that penal acts were undertaken in it. The court decided to rule in favour of the police and decided to disperse this strike for security reasons.

The police say that they will implement the court’s order as soon as they will receive it in an official way, and based on the law that says that manifestations must be dispersed if they put someone’s life in danger.

The Police say that no violence will be used and that they will have the strikers’ understanding. But the strikers were irritated after the decision and declared that they would not stop the strike. They even accused the court of violating their basic right.

They consider this decision a violation of the citizens’ right to protest.

After promising to move the strike to another premise, they underlined that this court decision proves that there are no independent institutions in Albania.

They insist that their strike is economic and has no political purposes.

The head of the Political Prisoners Association, Skender Tufa, declared that the Court decision is anti-democratic and the parties must sit and dialogue.

“We have a new dictatorship in Albania and they are acting in a flagrant way”, Tufa declared.

The situation of the strikers has deteriorated on the 26th day. Fatmir Lamaj is the striker who was sent to hospital today at 10:00, after falling ill.

PD: The political prisoners are compensated

The Democratic Party reacted against the political prisoners’ determination to continue the strike saying that they are being sponsored by the opposition, and even though they summoned Minister Halimi for an interpellation, they made no questions. They said that the person who set Ndreca on fire has a luxury villa in Corfu and on the day that Albania would receive the EU candidate status, he was ordered to set in fire a striker with mental problems.

“Halimi told the MPs and their victims that are staying in the tents raised by Edi Rama’s order, that all of them have received 256.000 USD as compensation. They have also received apartments, with a total cost of 240.000 USD, and have privatized business objects and plants with a symbolical price, with a value that goes up to more than 400.000 USD. In total they have received 900.000 USD.
The other man with three names and a luxury villa in Corfu, who set on fire the striker with severe mental problems, has been compensated with a three bedroom apartment and 530.000 ALL. And besides this, the political prisoners are receiving the second instalment”, says the reaction of the Democratic Party.
