The Socialist MP, Saimir Tahiri, was fined by the Court of Appeal with 1
million ALL, which he must pay to the Prime Minister’s children, Argita
and Shkelzen Berisha.

The fine comes a few months after the Court of First Degree decided to fine Tahiri with 2.5 million ALL, while the appeal brought it down to 1 million. Judges Gjin GJoni, Artan Broci and Edmond Gogo ruled that the MP has caused moral damage to the Prime Minister’s children through slander.

The Socialist MP declared that he will appeal it at the Supreme Court.

Tahiri accused the judiciary, saying that they have turned into the lash of whoever tries to report the corruption of the Berisha family. MP Tahiri added that justice today punishes whistleblowers, but they haven’t been able to punish anyone for the Gerdec or January 21st tragedies.

The opposition leader, Edi Rama, reacted a few hours later saying that the judiciary is being used by the government that wants silence up the opposition.

“The three judges known as the blind tool of this government decided to punish an opposition MP, Saimir Tahiri, to plead the Prime Minister’s children”.
