Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Criminal Court of Tirana gave the verdict for the Vergine Oil
scandal, finding 1 of the defendants not guilty, and 12 of them were
sentenced, most of them for perjury, while the prosecution had charged
them with obstructing justice.
While for the drivers that were accused for the Vergine Oil scandal, the Court gave punishments that were served in detention before trial.
Prosecutor Daniela Sulaj demanded four years to prison for businessman Iliaz Fisheku, for which they had asked four years to prison for fraud in cooperation. The court found him guilty only for failing to report a crime and sentenced him to 10 months and 20 days in prison, which has already been served.
The former anti-smuggling employee, Arjan Daci, was found innocent for falsifying documents, while the former Customs employee, Edmond Ferraj, was sentenced to 16 months in prison.
The court released the trucks that transported the Vergine Oil, returning it to the Fisheku and Martin companies.
