Corruption, not because of immunity

The Constitutional changes related with the immunity was the main word
of the opposition leader, Edi Rama, during the Parliamentary Socialist
Group meeting, from where he said that lifting immunity is not enough,
if these Constitutional amends do not include those of justice.

Rama illustrated the need of a reform in the justice system with some judicial processes, where immunity was lifted for some Ministers and still they were not punished for their corruptive affairs.

“Berisha is almost saying that he can do nothing about corruption, being only a Prime Minister, and if the opposition will not have a good will about it, Berisha can do nothing about corruption. Blaming the opposition is the only thing left for the Prime Minister. The Albanians know how the trials of ministers ended as a comedy. Immunity was lifted without problem, but no one was punished”, Rama declared.

Rama added that Berisha is trying to blame the opposition for the lack of will to fight corruption. For this reason he promised a review of the privatization projects and the concessions that have been given in service of what he called “the economic clan that surrounds Berisha”.

“There is no exaggeration is saying that they have stolen Albania in the last 7 years more than every other government in the last 100 years of the Albanian states. The oil fields are still there, fortunately. The mines too, together with other public assets, but they are now giving them for concessions and transactions. The National Lottery will be there, if they will dare to privatize it with the terms that they have announced, and we will do a full transparency to the state budget, so that the stolen money will be returned”, Rama declared.

The SP leader declared that  no opposition has worked harder for the candidate status and he underlined that the problem is not simply in passing the laws, as Berisha pretends, but in implementing them.

The SP leader admitted in some way that the electoral reform was passed in a hurry, in order to create the opportunity to receive EU candidate status this year when he declared:
“We put in danger the relations with our political allies for a reform that did not modify the system, and we did this by saying that it is a necessity for the EU candidate status this autumn”.
