Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that from today fines will be imposed on large businesses that have not applied so that their employees receive the ‘war salary’, as it is known the government’s compensation for job closures during the pandemic.
“Whoever does not take the trouble to apply to the tax authorities, so that the employees receive the payment of 40 thousand lek, will be fined for each employee that they have abandoned in this intolerable way!”, Rama wrote.
In his comment the prime minister added:
“Repeatedly, individuals who benefit from the extended package write to me on ‘whatsap’, to complain that their employer (some entities in the ‘big business’ category) does not apply on their behalf and thus they cannot receive the 40 thousand lek compensation! These are employees who were fired up to April 10th, and a significant number of employers have turned their backs on them. This is intolerable!
“Today we will adopt a fine for big businesses, who betray their employees, with this great social irresponsibility, by not taking the trouble to make the application as a the company!”
