Human rights for the Albanians in Presheva, and the return of some books
in Kosovo, has created concerns about the two representatives of the
Ombudsman in Tirana and Prishtina.
Igli Totozani, Ombudsman of Albania, and Hilmi Jashari, Ombudsman of Kosovo, declared that they have held meetings with representatives of the Ombudsman in Serbia, but the limited mandate leaves no room for action.
“We have treated issues that are related to civilian registration documents, and the risks many of these people take as regards benefits they might have from citizenship, because there have been tendencies to remove themselves from the registers. But they may have other profits based on the laws. Since the Ombudsman is extended within the territory of Kosovo, it has been difficult to cooperate with the other institutions which are in that part of the territory”, said Hilmi Jashari, Ombudsman of Kosovo.
According to the Ombudsman of Albania, Igli Totozani, so far they have taken advantage of several methods to request more civil rights in the Presheva Valley.
These declarations came after singing a cooperation agreement between Kosovo and Albania. The most important part is the help towards Albania for “National Mechanism to Prevent Torture”, recently established in Kosovo.
