On April 20th, the day when Muslims commemorate the birth of prophet
Mohammed, the head of the Muslim Community in Albania, Selim Muca,
signed an agreement for the construction of the new mosque in Tirana
with the Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, and the Mayor of Tirana,
Lulzim Basha. This mosque will be the biggest in the country.

“I pray lord to make it easy for us to build the Big Mosque in Tirana, here in Namazgha, the place which is an expression of the big and generous spirit, and of the sacrifice of those Muslim devotees who gave for the religion and the people their dedication, their wealth and every sacrifice”, Selim Muca declared.

“This is a big day, because it divides us from prejudices based on atheism which blocked for 20 years the construction of this mosque that the Muslim devotees need so much in Tirana”, Berisha declared.

“Tirana is the model of religious coexistence, and on this special day we start the construction of this major work, completing this way the mosaic of cult objects in the Albanian capital”, Berisha declared.

The mosque can hold 5000 devotees. It will be 35 meters high and will have four minarets.

The Mosque will be a multifunctional place, because it will have libraries, classes and entertainment areas for children.

The high cost has not scared the leaders of the Muslim community, who are happy for the readiness of all Albanians, regardless their religious affiliation, to be part of this project”.
