Construction in deep crisis

The construction sector is plunging into an increasing crisis, due to the constant fall of demand.

Only in the last three months, this sector has marked a decrease of 25%, while the Association of Constructors says that the crisis gives a domino effect in other businesses too.

“In the beginning of the year, this industry decreased with 17% and even to 20-25% in this last period. Is a very deep plunge and if the construction industry will not move, there will be consequences in other businesses. Let’s not forget that with the construction business are related 130 other businesses”, declared Ilir Hebovija, from the Constructors’ Association.

Constructors say that the demand has decreased due to the banks giving less loans and the emigrants’ spending less because of the crisis in the countries where they live.

“There’s a 14% decrease in the third trimester 2012, especially for home mortgages. There’s less demand also because emigrants are saving due to the crisis in the countries where they live. Another reason is that man of these emigrants work in the black market and cannot declare the source of the revenues, now that the law against money laundering entered in act”, Hebovija declared.

Besides the real estate, the infrastructure has also been damaged, due to the shrinking public investments. Constructors want to stop the relation with banks that according to them have the liquidity to put the money in usage, even with a state guarantee.
