Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, chosen by the Parliament on 7 April 2011, now has a five year mandate.
According to the Constitution, she will be President until 2016. The Kosovo Constitutional Court assessed the constitutionality of the amends made by the Parliamentary Commission for Changing the Constitution.
There are eight amends that according to the Constitutional Court reduce the rights and freedoms guaranteed on Chapter II of the Constitution, and that eventually are not according to the law.
A new article was proposed among these amends, regarding the premature ending of the Presidential Mandate.
The Political agreement between Hashim thaci, Isa Mustafa and Behgjet Pacolli had ended the Presidential crisis in Kosovo, which foresees that the presidential elections should be held by the end of 2012.
But the Constitutional decision guarantees a full mandate to the current President, Atifete Jahjaga.
The Constitutional court found as against the Constitution some amends that are related with the candidates that can run for President and the competences of the President.
