While new concessionary projects have returned debates to the center of
attention, Top Channel has reviewed the balances of 15 highest
concessions in our country, without involving hydropower plants.
Data show that their annual turnover has been 600 million EUR, 6% of the GDP. Concessionary businesses have seen the quickest growth in our country, circulating hundreds of millions of dollars often with extraordinary profits.
Balances handed over at the National Center of Registration show profits up to 52% such as the Vlore Petrolifera. Other businesses, the Rinas Airport and the Passport concession have respectively 33% and 39% profits.
But not every concession appears with profits. Fiscal Tax and Fuel Marking concessions have declared negative financial results in the past two years.
Health concessions, such as hemodialysis, check up and sterilization have not shown their financial results yet. There has only been a generalized prediction of the annual turnover, based on contract values.
Concessions have spurred hot economic debates in the past five years. Experts say that economy and citizens not only have not earned enough from concessions, but are also paying high costs. Concession agreements have often raised suspicions and corruption accusations, not only among politicians.
