Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Six urban transportation companies that operate in the Albanian capital are demanding to double the bus ticket price.
Invited in Top Channel’s morning show “Wake Up”, the head of the Urban Transportation Association, Ferdinand Ibrahimi, declared that this request comes due to the financial situation of the operators.
As owner of one of main and most problematic bus lines in the capital, Mr. Ibrahimi says that the Tirana Municipality obliged them to increase the urban service quality, with an investment fund that mounts to 19.2 million EUR, all loaned from banks.
Adding to this the increase of the fuel price each year, the urban transport operators insist that the current ticket price not only doesn’t cover their expenses, but is leading them to a financial collapse.
The most recent urban transportation ticket price increase was made four years ago, on May 2008, from 20 ALL to 30.
Regardless the constant propositions of the operators, it is up to the Council of Ministers to decide if the Urban Transportation ticket of the Albanian capital will increase.
