“Communist remains were removed”

In a letter sent to the Albanian people through Top Channel, the former
United States Ambassador to Tirana, John Withers, says that the vote of
the June 23rd elections was an historic act.

Withers says that the Parliamentary elections changed the orientation of national history, and the communist remains of the past have been removed and now democracy is being established. Hence, there should be no turning back.

The former United States Ambassador underlines that he is not surprised by the voting of one week ago. He thinks that the Albanian citizens marked another effort for freedom.

He wished success to the next Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, and tells Prime Minister Sali Berisha that rarely has he agreed with his interior policies, but he has respected him as a man.

“Maybe history will give a better judgment on him”, Withers writes.
