The Rrethina Commune and the Drainage Board in the eastern suburbs of
Shkoder, have been working for the last days to return the Kir River
inside its riverbed.
Countless amounts of waste materials have been dumped in the Kir River for the past 20 years, making it change direction and threaten the houses of the Bardhaj Village. This fact, and the uncontrolled exploitation of its construction materials, have made the river bed look like a giant garbage bin.
The vice head of the Rrethina Commune, Gjovalin Stolaj, declared that this is the first time that the river is being cleaned in 20 years.
Similar scenes are seen even in other areas where this river goes through, now even taking considerable amounts of agricultural land. Kir is also known for sudden floods, especially during Autumn, and this makes the situation even more difficult and scarier for the residents.
