Tirana citizens were obliged today to interrupt their travel or stay
inside buses for 30 minutes today at 10:00. Seven urban transportation
lines that operate in Tirana have stopped in stations in protest against
the low price of tickets.
Transportation Syndication leaders say that drivers have not been paid for three months because companies cannot afford that cost. They are asking an increase of the ticket price, or better compensation from the state.
“We want the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Finances to agree with the transportation companies, so that we can review the ticket price or subvention, so that we can afford the workers’ wages. When this ticket price was decided in 2004, the fuel price was lower. Today it has increased a lot”, declared Zija Hasanaj, Head of the Federation of Independent Unions of Transportation Workers.
Transportation companies have asked a increase of the ticket price within cities from 30 ALL ot 70 ALL. This request was made to the Ministry of Finances, Transportation and Tirana Municipality and other institutions that cover a category of the population who travel for free.
