The Albanian grammar books for high schools and universities must
change. Historians and directors of the Chameria Study Institute asked
for history to be reviewed and the Chams to be represented in a wider
and more accurate aspect.
“For the first time, our texts include the Chameria element in their education programs. I think that it is still too little. In 500 pages of text there are only 18 pages for Chameria. Is a very limited dimension, due to the specific weight that Chameria has in the Albanian population”, declared Prof. Dr. Beqir Meta.
Gjergj Xhafa, as director of the Institution, declared that the proposed changes will affect the most noted Cham figures that must have their place in the Albanian history and culture.
“The school texts are more focused on the historical point of view, and in 500 pages, 13 belong to Chameria only and others to the tradition and culture”, Xhafa declared.
Professors and historians identified many important events that have not been mentioned in the history books before 1944. The members of this meeting asked for more information to be taken from British, Italian and French archives.
